Purdah Gate

A document of some remnants of history.

The purdah gate was the main entrance to the King Kothi Palace, the residence of the the last Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan. While the palace is not open to the public – this gate is all that one can view from the outside. The Nizam VII resided in this palace till his demise in 1967.

The gate was called purdah gate as a curtain would be draped at the entrance. If the curtain was drawn it would mean the Nizam was present at the residence, if it was raised the Nizam was elsewhere. Today the curtain is perpetually drawn even if the Nizam does not stay there.
