Shamsheer Kotha

Hardly realised it was a Heritage site when I shot this in 2006. The door(and the smaller one below) just caught my eye. Wiser now, this is Shamsheer Kotha and has rare swords and cannon balls. Infact there is a canon just beside this door. Today it is in a state of neglect as a lot of the swords and weapons have been moved to another museum.

[From the book -“Heritage Capital-Hyderabad”]

Situated to the east of Bala Hisar along the main road which passes through Fateh Darwaza and leads to the Balal Hisar Gate is Shamsheer Kotha. As the name suggests, the building was used for storage of arms like Swords, Guns, Muskets,
cannon Balls and such like. Currently the department of archaeology has a priceless collection of weapons, mostly swords, bows and arrows, from the Moghul, Qutb shahi and Asaf Jahi periods. The architecture has all the signatures of
the Qutb Shahi period with main arches and window arches on the façade.
