Sohan Lal is my favourite performer at Shilparamam. He has so much of infectious energy and enthusiasm. He is one of those rare people who has no teeth and still wears a heartwarming smile. He makes the puppets dance to his wife’s dholak beats. He was telling me he had the whole range of puppets from Shivaji, Maharaja Rana Pratap Singh and Shah Jahan as well. And to perform the whole show for 2 hrs by 3 artists would cost 5000 . He claims this art form to be handed over for thousands of generations (from tretha yug, in his own words)
Also, this is not technically a Hyderabadi shot. Maybe Rajasthani or Gujarati. But thanks to establishments like Shilparamam who promote art forms from various regions all over India, one is able to enjoy appreciate and also patronise such dying arts.
